What should my fundal height be at 28 weeks?
On the INTERGROWTH-21st chart the median at 28 weeks is about 27.7 cm, and the typical range (10th to 90th percentile) is about 25.5 to 29.9 cm.
Is it a problem to measure 2 cm behind my weeks?
Often not. The "weeks in cm, give or take 2" rule is rough, and near term the typical measurement sits a little below the weeks. Check where it falls on the chart. Below the 10th percentile, midwives usually arrange a growth scan.
Why is my fundal height measuring small or big?
The baby's position, a full bladder, the amount of fluid, your build, fibroids and who measures all change it. A measurement outside the typical range is a reason for a scan, which shows the baby's size more exactly.
Why did my fundal height go down at 37 weeks?
Near term the baby often drops lower into the pelvis, which can lower the measurement. If it stays the same or falls across the percentile lines, tell your midwife, because that's a reason for a growth scan.
When will my midwife send me for a growth scan?
Usually after a single measurement below the 10th percentile, or when measurements stay the same or fall across the percentile lines between visits.
Is fundal height used for twins?
No. With twins, growth is followed with scans instead.
