How many kicks should I feel?

There's no set number. What matters is your baby's own pattern. Many people feel 10 movements well within 2 hours, and the counter helps you learn your usual.

When should I start counting kicks?

Many people first feel movements between about 16 and 24 weeks. Counting is usually suggested from about 28 weeks.

What if I don't feel 10 movements in 2 hours?

Call your midwife or maternity unit now. Don't wait and don't count again first.

My baby is moving less than usual today. Should I count again first?

No. Call now, day or night.

Do babies move less near the due date?

No. Movements may feel different as space gets tight, but they carry on right up to and during labor.

What counts as a movement?

Kicks, rolls, swishes and jabs. Hiccups don't count.

What's the best time of day to count?

When your baby is usually active, often in the evening or after a meal. Count at about the same time each day so the numbers compare.

Does the counter save my counts?

Yes, on this device only. Nothing is sent.

Can I use a home Doppler instead?

No. A home Doppler can pick up your own pulse, and even a real heartbeat doesn't mean your baby is well. If movements change, call.

It took longer than my usual. What does that mean?

A bit longer (more than 5 minutes): call now if movements feel weaker, fewer or different. Much longer (more than one and a half times your usual and at least 10 minutes more): call now.
