What is the HC/AC ratio?

The baby's head circumference divided by the abdominal circumference, both from the same scan. It shows how the head and tummy compare.

What is a typical HC/AC ratio at my week?

It falls through pregnancy: about 1.19 at 20 weeks, 1.11 at 28 weeks, 1.03 at 36 weeks and just under 1 at 40 weeks. Enter your week to see the typical range.

What does a high HC/AC ratio mean?

The head measures large compared with the tummy. Sonographers look at it together with the estimated weight, the fluid and the blood flow, and often plan a follow-up scan.

What does a low HC/AC ratio mean?

The tummy measures large compared with the head. On its own this often just means a well-grown tummy.

Why does my result differ from my report?

Clinics use different charts, and a few millimeters change the ratio. Your report's own chart is the one your team goes by.
