How does the fertile window calculator work?
It estimates ovulation as: Last Period Start + (Average Cycle Length − Luteal Phase). The fertile window is the 6-day span covering the 5 days before ovulation plus ovulation day. Example (28-day cycle, luteal 14, period starting Aug 1): ovulation ≈ Aug 15, 14 days after your period starts (cycle day 15, counting the first day of bleeding as day 1); fertile window ≈ Aug 10–15 (cycle days 10–15).
How accurate is an ovulation calculator based on cycle length?
It’s an estimate, not a guarantee. Stress, illness, travel, and sleep can shift ovulation by several days. For better accuracy, pair this with LH (ovulation) tests and basal body temperature (BBT) charting.
Can I use this if my cycles are irregular, postpartum, or after stopping birth control?
You’ll get a rough range, but irregular/postpartum cycles and recent hormonal birth control can make ovulation unpredictable. Use LH tests and BBT for confirmation, and treat dates as approximate only.
What is the luteal phase, and should I change the default 14 days?
The luteal phase is the time from ovulation to your next period (often ~11–17 days). If you know your personal luteal length from BBT/progesterone tracking, enter it; otherwise keep 14. Very short luteal phases (<10 days) warrant a chat with your clinician.
Which days are most fertile and how often should we try?
Highest conception odds are on ovulation day and the day before, but the full 6-day window matters. Intercourse every 1–2 days during the fertile window is typical. Daily is fine if semen parameters are normal.
What signs indicate approaching ovulation?
A positive LH surge usually occurs ~24–36 hours before ovulation. Cervical mucus often becomes clear, stretchy, and egg-white-like. A slight BBT rise confirms ovulation after it happens.
