How does a fertile window calculator work?
It places ovulation 14 days before your next expected period (or your own number of days) and marks the 5 days before it plus ovulation day as your fertile window.
How accurate is it?
It's a guide. Ovulation often moves by a few days from cycle to cycle, even in regular cycles. Ovulation tests and cervical mucus changes can narrow it down.
Which days are the most fertile?
The 2 days before ovulation and ovulation day itself.
What is the luteal phase and should I change it?
It's the time from ovulation to your next period, usually 12 to 14 days. Leave it blank (14 is used) unless you know your own from ovulation tests or charting.
My cycles are irregular. Can I still use it?
You can, but the dates will be rougher. Ovulation tests and mucus changes help more. Very irregular cycles are worth mentioning to your doctor.
How often should we have sex when trying?
Every 2 to 3 days through the whole cycle gives you as good a chance as timing it, without the pressure.
Can I use it to avoid pregnancy?
No. Ovulation moves from cycle to cycle, so a calendar can't tell you which days are safe. Talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist about contraception.
When should we see a doctor?
After a year of trying, or 6 months if you're 35 or older, or sooner if your periods are very irregular, stop, or are very painful or heavy.
